How To Hire A Magician For Your Event

How To Hire The Right Magician For Your Event:

It’s the last minute, and suddenly you realize that you forgot to hire a magician for your event. Not to worry, here are a few helpful hints for hiring a professional magician for your party or corporate event.

If your party is on a Friday or Saturday in December, magicians are really busy. You may be left with the table scraps of performers still available… the bottom of the magic barrel… a magician who probably wears a bright red suit with playing cards printed on his bowtie and whose day job fixing broken laptops doesn’t allow him human interaction, basic social skills, or sunlight. As you read his five star Yelp reviews, something doesn’t seem to add up. Here’s a guide to help:

  1. Most magicians for hire, at least here in LA, have five star Yelp ratings. Maybe that’s because it’s such a face to face experience when you hire a performer. Frankly it’s a mystery to me, because I can’t tell you how many awful magicians I know who have a five star Yelp rating. Some of them actually give invitations to the Magic Castle in exchange for five star reviews. When you look at a magician’s photos and website, use your intuition. It may be more accurate than Yelp.
  2. Look at the magician’s videos. Videos will tell you most of what you need to know about their magic performances. If you do nothing else… do this.
  3. When it comes to magic awards and peer accolades, take them all with a grain of salt. As someone who has won multiple international magic awards, I can tell you that they don’t really matter that much. It certainly doesn’t hurt if a performer has some awards to brag about, but it doesn’t NECESSARILY mean they are actually good. Trust me on this.
  4. Once you’re confident that they are a good magician, give them a call and do a quick gut check. Ask yourself if they have the social skills to interact positively with your guests.
  5. If the magician has a publicly ticketed show, that’s a good sign. Go see it, or, at least read the reviews. It’s much harder for someone to “game” Yelp or Tripadvisor when he is literally performing for thousands of paid attendees each year who then proceed to leave honest reviews about the magic show they just saw. And, the mere fact that a magician HAS thousands of paid attendees each year is also a very positive sign.
  6. Trust your gut over all else.

I hope this helps you find a top notch magician for hire.  For recommendations in most major cities, feel free to drop me a message.

Corporate Magician for Japanese Audiences

April 10, 2011

If you are entertaining corporate V.I.P.’s in Los Angeles who speak only Japanese, you are in luck. I can perform my show for a Japanese audience by speaking a combination of Japanese and English. After 93 shows in Nagasaki, and several TV performances in Japan, I can entertain an audience in Japanese with magic. I travel from Los Angeles to Japan for gigs. Call me if you need a magician for your next corporate event in Los Angeles or Japan.

November 25, 2013

Here I am again about to enter another busy holiday season. Magicians in Los Angeles are swamped again this year with holiday events, including corporate events.

My calendar at this point is considerably more packed than last year. Every Friday in December is booked and all but one Saturday. Oddly, I’ve also gotten loads of calls from people looking for a magician for weekday events in Los Angeles.

All in all, it’s not a bad year to be a magician in Los Angeles.

Plus, I am flying to Honolulu again for New Year’s Eve, after booking the same gig there as last year. I’ll be performing a private show in the Trump Tower once again in Japanese.  “Watashiwa Nihongoga Schoshi Wakadimas!”

Los Angeles Corporate Entertainment
Our Magic & Wine event is attracting a lot of corporate groups lately. It has become the #2 attraction in Los Angeles on Tripadvisor.com, and we’ve had many corporate groups contact us to book private events.

The new venue in Hollywood is spectacular. Bardot is located inside the historic Avalon theater. It’s a hidden speakeasy that creates the perfect ambiance for magic. We recently hosted an event for Intel to introduce their newest version of Windows.

The structure of the event allows for some mingling and speaking about a product. The first hour is essentially a cocktail party, with hors d’oeuvres and a flight of four wines. It’s a good opportunity to address the group and get some messaging across to them.

Then, everyone moves into the theater for a 90-minute show. There is a 15-minute intermission in the show, which provides another opportunity to mingle.
If you’d like to book a corporate group Magic and Wine event at our venue, please email us.

Los Angeles Corporate Entertainment
Planning a corporate event in Los Angeles? Need some entertainment for your VIP clients?
You won’t find a better event than the “Evening of Enchantment”.
This past month a number of corporate groups have come to our event in Malibu. The unanimous feedback we received was that it had exceeded their greatest expectations.
The Evening of Enchantment is perfect for corporate entertainment. Normally, a corporate group will take a limo or large bus to the event. They drive up the coast to the stunning Beau Rivage, with its ocean views and full bloom of flowers.
They begin upstairs in the tower room with the wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. Then the group moves into the wine cellar for the magic show, and finally into the dining room for dinner.
From beginning to end, it is a fun and relaxing way to enjoy an evening together, with plenty of time to chat along the way. It is the ultimate in Los Angeles corporate entertainment.
Here’s what one of our recent corporate clients said about the event:
“David Minkin’s Evening of Enchantment was an absolutely awesome event for us at our company’s event. The food, wine and setting for both the dinner and magic show were perfect. It was truly a special event.” – Bill E., Skyline Financial
Get more info about the magic show in Los Angeles, and email us for menu options and other questions regarding your corporate group event.
The evening will be unlike any corporate entertainment you’ve ever experienced!
